Veal Sbov Villa
Phnom Penh, 2024

Veal Sbov Villa is a private residential villa in Phnom Penh shaped by its natural surroundings and designed around the owner's relationship with nature, gardening, and physical well-being. To protect the existing landscape, the villa is divided into clusters, allowing the experience of the home to unfold gradually from the entrance through to the most private spaces. This organizational strategy creates a clear progression through four distinct zones: reception, living, entertainment, and rest, each balancing communal areas for gatherings with secluded spaces for reflection and relaxation.
Visitors arrive under a tall canopy of trees that provide privacy and a sense of arrival, with the entrance opening to a lobby that flows into a courtyard centered around a large tree and reflective pond. A semi-open corridor connects the different parts of the home, leading to the Main Tower, while the living area at the center links the front courtyard to the rear garden. This rear garden, featuring a swimming pool and wooden deck, accommodates both lively gatherings and quiet moments, creating a setting where residents and guests can connect and unwind within the calm of the natural environment.
This residence prioritizes the relationship between built form and landscape, demonstrating how careful spatial organization and a respect for the existing site can produce a home that is both functional and deeply connected to its surroundings.
