Khéma Restaurant at Flatiron
Khéma Restaurant at Flatiron
Phnom Penh, 2022

In 2020, The Room Architecture and Design partnered with Meridian International Holdings and Thalias Hospitality Group to deliver high‑performance dining environments for Phnom Penh’s community of professionals. The project involved the expansion of the Khéma brand, specifically its third branch, the Khéma Go takeaway concept, and the Siena steakhouse and wine bar. Located on the 27th and 28th floors of the Flatiron by Meridian building, the venues are defined by expansive glass façades that frame panoramic views of the city.

The design challenge for Khéma required a precise balance between the comfort of its established brand identity and a contemporary update suited to a high‑rise business district. The Room replicated the intimate atmosphere of the original restaurants by prioritizing acoustic performance, ambient lighting levels and ergonomic seating. Earthy tones provide a foundational palette that reinforces the brand's home‑like ambiance within a modern architectural shell.
Signature material elements, including Khmer bricks and dark hardwood floors carried over from the Khéma La Poste and Khéma Pasteur locations, are contrasted against sleek glass walls. This juxtaposition allows the interior to maintain continuity with the brand heritage while responding to the lively urban context of the city. Resolving these spatial and heritage requirements within a high‑profile vertical structure ensures the overall design protects the operator's standards while delivering a compelling hospitality environment in Phnom Penh's new business center.
