Amateur Hotel

Phnom Penh

The Amateur Hotel, located in one of Phnom Penh’s Morgan En Maison Towers and overlooking the Mekong River, is a multi-scalar project encompassing landscape, architecture, and interior design. Rooted in the natural curves of the site, the design introduces sophistication through restrained material selection and soft greenery. Guests approach through garden-like outdoor pool pathways leading to the ballroom, a pavilion-like structure that acts as both destination and spatial filter between the private hotel entrance and the public pool area. The ballroom follows the site’s curved footprint, with rhythmic walls and narrow vertical glazing aligned with skylights, creating a softly lit interior that contrasts with full-height glazing on the short ends, one opening onto the Mekong River, the other onto the garden entrance. This fluidity continues inside, where interiors blend white marble, woven textures, soft tones, and brass accents, composing a unified experience of retreat.
