Once a residence of former-king Norodom Sihanouk, this modernist villa from 1962 now houses the office and training hall for the Parliamentary Institute of Cambodia, following careful renovation work under design supervision from The Room. Shifting the function of this unusual heritage piece without making significant changes to the building meant extending out rather than up, improving ventilation – a common issue for older structures – and finding a way to arrange the office space without disturbing the existing walls. Exterior landscaping work brought more greenery into the surroundings and improved pedestrian pathways leading to the building.
