Unicef’s base in Cambodia is located in one of Phnom Penh’s most modern office buildings, Exchange Square, in a space exceeding 1,000 square-metres. In keeping with the Unicef philosophy to democratise the decision-making process, efforts were made to invite all staff to give input on the design. The workspace is bright, open and splashed with Unicef’s characteristic blue alongside eccentric egg chairs – brainstorming spots, variously-sized meeting rooms, conference rooms, standing stations and offices combine semi-open, open and closed areas for an efficient use of space that caters to more than 100 people. L-shaped offices are welcoming yet private – an important requirement – the glass walls covered with semi-transparent panels and blocked by strategically-placed storage boxes.
